Sometimes, from crisis springs maturity
Posted by Melbo / March 5th, 2012 / No responsesOver the last several weeks I’ve observed a senior leadership team struggle through the storming phase of their development. It hasn’t been pretty, but often it isn’t. It’s called storming for a reason.
Just as I was thinking it couldn’t sink any lower, the leader of the team announced a serious family emergency was going to take her out of the mix for an extended period of time. Ut oh… if they don’t have a parent, who’s going to keep them from scratching each other’s eyeballs out?
It’s still too soon to say for sure if this latest curveball will have a sustained impact on their development as a team, but so far, things are looking better than they did just a week ago. Sometimes, from darkness comes light. It’s just too bad that it takes a life altering moment – an illness, an accident, a death – to pull people out of their entrenched corners and unite them in the centre.
But that’s what’s makes us human, isn’t it?
